Product overview

An automatic standby generator is designed to respond without waiting for an operator. The transfer controller monitors the normal source, commands the generator to start after a qualified failure, verifies the emergency source and moves approved loads according to the programmed sequence.

Reliable automation requires more than connecting two pieces of equipment. Voltage sensing, phase arrangement, breaker or switch interlocking, engine warm-up, load acceptance, return delay, cooldown, alarms and manual test modes must be documented as a complete control narrative.

Automatic Operating Cycle

  • Normal-source monitoring distinguishes a sustained failure from a short disturbance.
  • The generator starts and reaches acceptable voltage and frequency before transfer permission is issued.
  • The transfer device connects the emergency bus using the approved transition method.
  • After stable utility power returns, loads transfer back and the generator completes its cooldown sequence.

Control and Monitoring Options

  • Local controls provide manual, automatic and test functions appropriate to the selected system.
  • Remote contacts or communications can report source status, generator availability, common alarm and selected detailed faults.
  • Load shedding and staged restoration can be added where the standby source should not accept every circuit simultaneously.

Automatic Standby Applications

  • Commercial buildings and warehouses
  • Telecom and data equipment rooms
  • Water pumps and infrastructure controls
  • Factories requiring unattended outage response
  • Residential estates and remote properties
  • Security, communications and essential services

Control-System Information Required

  2. Transfer-switch current and short-circuit requirements
  3. Preferred open or closed transition philosophy
  4. Loads requiring staged addition or shedding
  5. Start, transfer, retransfer and cooldown delays
  6. Local test modes and remote command permissions
  7. Alarm list and communication interface

Jiangsu Kaichen Electric Power Equipment Co., Ltd. manufactures generator sets and integrated power solutions for industrial, commercial and standby applications. Before production, the project team reviews the confirmed electrical rating, operating duty, installation environment, controls, enclosure and requested options. Inspection and testing scope are agreed for the actual supply package.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What starts the generator?

A: The approved controller issues a start command after the normal source meets the programmed failure criteria.

Q: What is the difference between open and closed transition?

A: Open transition disconnects one source before connecting the other. Closed transition momentarily parallels sources and therefore requires additional engineering, protection and utility approval.

Q: Can the transfer system be tested without a real outage?

A: A manual or scheduled test mode can be configured when the required load-transfer behavior and operator permissions are defined.

Q: Can automatic loads be prioritized?

A: Yes. Load shedding and staged restoration can be included from an approved priority schedule and available control interfaces.
